We were delighted to welcome Matt Vickers, Conservative MP for Stockton South, who officially unveiled 18 new electric vehicle charging points at Teesside Park last Friday. Our local MP visited us, meeting with Catherine Furlong, centre director, to discuss the new spaces and the importance of reducing the region’s carbon footprint. The new parking spaces form part of the redevelopment work at the centre. Other improvements include extensive public realm space, ambient lighting, water features, and extensive green planting, as well as additional car parking spaces, and more vehicle exit and entry points.
Introducing the EV points is part of the commitment from British Land, owners of Teesside Park, to produce net-zero carbon by 2030 across all of its developments.
Matt Vickers MP said: “It was great to have a catch up with Catherine Furlong and the team at Teesside Park, thank them personally for their hard work and commitment in keeping everything open and running smoothly. Teesside Park is an engine of local growth and continues to go from strength to strength despite today’s difficult climate for retail. Now kitted out with brand new charge points for electric vehicles, the park is well on its way to meeting popular demand all the while helping in Teesside’s transition to a sustainable, electric and low-carbon future.”
Catherine Furlong, centre director at Teesside Park added: “It’s fantastic to have the support of our local MP in the transformation of Teesside Park. We always strive to provide the best shopping experience for our customers while being mindful of the impact we have on the environment. Teesside has recently been named the UK’s first Hydrogen Transport hub. Offering our growing number of customers with electric vehicles the option to charge while they shop or eat is just one of the ways we’re committed to lowering our carbon footprint and supporting the wider green ambitions of the region. I hope to see plenty of visitors taking advantage of the facility as more people start choosing to drive electric and we can all work towards a greener future.”
