The recent winds last week proved too much for half of Teesside’s resident swan couple, as this footage shows.
The poor swan misjudged its landing and was blown off course, hitting the Marks and Spencer roof and landing on a customer’s car (no damage to the car)!
Our fast acting staff members were able to usher the swan back to one of our ponds which it has called home for many years. Security Officers kept an eye on the swan and after 4 days had passed with very little movement the RSPCA were called for help.
The still images show them going out on their boat to retrieve the injured swan, which in itself proved to be a bit of a task!
The swan was taken to Jacqui Paterson’s Veterinary Surgery on Preston Farm Industrial Estate, where its wounds were cleaned and protected and it was given the once over to ensure that it didn’t have any underlying injuries after the accident.
During this time the swan’s mate was going from one pond to another trying to find its partner.
Thankfully, after an overnight stay the swan was returned by the RSPCA, as you can see from the video it seemed rather happy to be back home.
