Please note there is a 4-hour limit on our Retail South car park accessed via JD and Currys.

Teesside Park marks 15 years of Young Readers Programme
Teesside Park has celebrated 15 years of supporting young readers by hosting a special storytelling event with local schoolchildren as part of British Land’s award-winning Young Readers Programme.
Pupils from Highcliffe Primary School enjoyed an interactive storytelling session led by professional storyteller John Hughes at Middlesbrough Library, before taking part in creative activities at MIMA, where they designed personalised book bags and bookmarks. Each child also chose a book to take home and keep.
This year also marked the expansion of the programme to secondary schools, with Year 7 and 8 students from Laurence Jackson School taking part in graphic novel workshops led by cartoonist Marc Jackson. Students learned illustration techniques, created their own comic strips and selected graphic novels to encourage reading for pleasure.
Since launching at Teesside Park, the Young Readers Programme has supported more than 3,700 children across the region and donated over 10,980 books. This year’s activities reached 109 children and coincide with both the programme’s 15th anniversary and the National Year of Reading 2026.
Catherine Furlong, Centre Director at Teesside Park, said: “We’re delighted to celebrate 15 years of the Young Readers Programme here in Teesside. It’s fantastic to see children engaging with books through storytelling, creativity and activities that help inspire a lifelong love of reading.”
Delivered by British Land in partnership with the National Literacy Trust, the Young Readers Programme encourages children to read for enjoyment by giving them opportunities to discover and own books that reflect their interests.
The comic strips created by students at Laurence Jackson School are now on display in Teesside Park’s ‘Hello’ building for visitors to enjoy. Also located in the space is The Little Library, which encourages a love of reading by inviting children to take a book and leave one behind for others to discover.
