Teesside Park Marks Railway Bicentenary with Pop-Up Exhibition
A mini pop-up exhibition is now open at Teesside Park to celebrate the history of the world-famous Stockton & Darlington Railway.
Located in the ‘Hello’ Customer Services building (next to Hays Travel and the planned Flannels store), the mini exhibition forms part of the S&DR200 festival – marking 200 years since the railway’s opening.
Visitors can read about the history of the region’s railways and find out about the events and attractions planned by S&DR throughout the bicentenary celebrations.
One of the highlights of the pop-up exhibition is the Memory of a Journey, a peg doll display created by local children from Highcliffe and Chaloner Primary Schools. Each character represents a memorable train journey from the child’s own experience. The project was delivered by Teesside Park in partnership with the National Literacy Trust and its Young Readers Programme.
The children’s artworks will first be displayed at Teesside Park before moving on to local museums, where they will inspire future generations to help preserve the legacy of the region’s railway heritage.
