Community spirit in action at Teesside Park
On 25th June, as part of British Land’s Community Week, a team of volunteers from Teesside Park came together to support Inspiration Therapies and its charity arm Open Arms Teesside—two community-focused organisations based at Teesside Park.
Inspiration Therapies offers counselling and therapeutic support for children and families across the region. They operate from a unit provided through Teesside Park’s Affordable Spaces Initiative, which offers reduced rental rates to local charities and social enterprises.
A team of 20 volunteers—including members of Teesside Park’s management team, service partners and occupiers—donated 187 hours of their time in a single day to transform the Inspiration Therapies space. The project was a collaborative effort, with support from The Westgrove Group, Bowmer & Kirkland Ltd, Nurture Group, LJJ Ltd, and occupiers including Pets at Home, Boots, Showcase Cinema, White Stuff and Nando’s. Electric Center Stockton kindly donated sensory lighting.
Together, the team created a brand new sensory room tailored to neurodiverse children, improved therapy and group spaces, redecorated communal areas and added bright flower boxes and hanging baskets to create a more welcoming environment. Two young children from the local community were invited to unveil the sensory room, with one child showing particular joy at the fibre optic curtain and donut cushion—features designed to ease anxiety and enhance comfort during therapy.
This transformation reflects Teesside Park’s ongoing commitment to supporting its community through a place-based approach, working closely with local partners to create meaningful impact where it’s needed most.
